Khadi with a Twist -Femina MINC

KHADI WITH A TWIST

Indian wear that is feminine, romantic and wrapped with folk and drama elements

Name: MINC

Where: Mishan Design Studio, MINC, # 110 Vivekananda Nagar, Cox Town, Bangalore; Contact: 080 25468731/09379091133

What we saw: MINC opens its new store with eco fashion that includes hand-spun, vegetable-dyed, handwoven organic cotton (from sittilingi)-khadi in a new avatar, which is a pioneering effort of its kind. It’s also a store that houses a dedicated collection for tweens (10 to 14 year olds). Mini Shibu and Kochery Shibu, partners in this venture, decided to give khadi a twist. Specially enchanting is the tween wear for girls that has subtle design elements trimmed onto summer prints, available in a variety of earth and neutral tones. Mini says, “It’s difficult finding interesting fashion for tweens, and we decided to fill this gap by creating newage and young fashion, using organic cotton.” Sub brands, such as MINC petite and MINC toujours, present a practical, non-fuss line of green clothing, all dyes used to colour the lovely range of blouses, skirts, tops, capris and Tees are natural and azo free. Women can find a refreshing collection of jackets, shirts and tunics in linen, cotton and silk, with quirky detailing and trims. Fits are good, you can find a range in both casual and the dressed up look.

What we loved: The design element in most of the garments which were in the form of buttons, trims, edgings, pintucks and collar treatments. Summer is kept topmost in the mind, and the prints are fresh, in a mix and match kind of way.

Price points: Cotton tops and blouses range from Rs 450 onwards, while silk jackets could go upto Rs 8,000.
